About Kendra

Like a bird…

I am wandering, I am free, I am falling, I still sing.

Like a bird…

I am watchful, I am between here and there, I am up and down.

Like a bird…

I get caught up in the wind, I beat my wings, I go left then right and after, I struggle, I find my way.

The idea for the name of my blog comes from a poem I wrote about two years ago:

When leaving the nest one must spread their wings and fly. There is no time when taking that dive to hope to simply be caught up in the wind, there is no time to hope for a rescue if one falls too far. The rescue is now in the hands of no one but the one taking flight. One must catch the breeze, stretch their wings and take off at record speed. There is never time to fear the ground below, just look ahead with all the strength it takes to stay above those trees.

Hi I’m Kendra. I’m an almost 20 something who loves art and nature.

I love the symbolism and the beauty of birds but am deathly afraid of them when they get to close to me, I am a walking contradiction.

My perfect day would consist of going to a park (preferably one with a pond, lake or river) and having a nice long picnic with my boyfriend
and then lying in the grass, staring up at the sun and doodling in my notebook.

I devour books. (I love how that sounds, though I must credit my boyfriend for the word devour.) If I was allowed I would spend all day reading. I often finish books in about 3-5 hours tops. I read Harry Potter 5,6,7 all overnight (when I first bought them).
I love fantasy. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter rock. Twilight is god awful.

I am obsessed with Star Wars. (the originals are my life, the prequels are pretty bad but still watchable). I love R2D2, and Darth Vader, and Yoda, and C3PO and Hans Solo…Okay I really don’t have a favorite character or a favorite episode.

I am a coffee addict and a blog addict.

I love tattoos but only have one so far.

I have my lip and nose pierced. I have had to re pierce my nose 3 times.

I enjoy killing zombies on Left 4 Dead (1&2)

I can’t truly enjoy music unless it is ear-splittingly loud and I must confess, I still love BackStreet Boys, Spice Girls and Aqua.
But I also love Eminem, Marilyn Manson, Eve 6, The Beach Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bon Jovi…among others.

I love vintage, handmade, antiques, notebooks, journals, sharpies, post-it notes, line drawings, books, any chocolate with almonds in it or peanut butter, my boyfriend, movie theater popcorn, scrapbook paper, really bad horror movies, and Asian horror movies, my sister(cause she rocks), dreaming of traveling, road trips and always getting lost on them and thinking it’s hilarious after the fact, interior design, my family who is amazingly supportive, bread.

I hate my handwriting, doing math, doing the dishes and annoying people.

As I grow older, I’ve noticed I’ve gotten girly-er, I don’t mind the color pink or floral patterns so much.

I hate having to do my hair, I hate my hair in general. I like my eyes, some days they are green, others brown, some golden-y yellow.

I struggle with loving visual art and writing. Some days I love one and hate the other, some days it’s reversed. I think I’m learning to be okay with that.

I’m in the process of trying to write 2 novels. One fantasy one more urban fantasy/paranormal. Currently I am about 45,000 words through one and 12,000 through the other.

I’ve been a photographer for about 6-7 years. Have been working with digital art/photoshop since before then. I have been an art journaler for about 3 years. I love mixed media, watercolors and oil. I’m not a fan of acrylic. I like to use neutrals, birds, butterflies, real leaves and twigs in my art.

I love quotes.

Last year (2009-2010) I attended art school and decided it wasn’t right for me. Now I am taking some time off and trying to re-asses my life, my dreams and my future. It’s a huge task and I’m not sure where to start.

My blog is me. It is a part of me and I devote almost an insane amount of time working on posts, looking for ideas and reading other blogs for inspiration. I love my blog and, I think, it loves me too.
